Anonymous Hacker Group Surfaces in Gilgit-Baltistan, Defaces Indian Website

An Anonymous hacktivist group called Gilgit Baltistan Hackers “GB Hackers” has surfaced for the first time in Gilgit-Baltistan’s history. The hacker group has defaced the website of All India SC & ST Railway Employees Association replacing the whole website contents with a banner of their own. The banner has on it displayed a map of Gilgit-Baltistan, flags of Pakistan and India; and a message to the viewers.

“We are not a cricket match” says the message, “Stop playing with us“, they add.

In the background, a song “Hum Gilgit-Baltistan Ke Hain” plays automatically and goes in a loop till you close the window.

This is the first time any hacker group from Gilgit-Baltistan has carried out such an operation. Hacktivists throughout the world deface and hack websites for various reasons. The agenda of such operations are mostly to raise political, religious or regional issues.

Anonymous officially disowns hackers working for personal gain.

The target website (www.aisctrea.com) uses a .com generic top-level domain or a gTLD. Organizations especially governments do not use such gTLDs but its usage is not restricted, unlike many other specific TLDs.

The website is hosted on a shared web host that probably enabled the hackers to break into the server and upload their message. Websites hosted on a shared web hosting are relatively easier to deface compared to those hosted on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or dedicated servers.
