LUMS Adventure Society (LAS), over its 20-year legacy, has been dedicated to trekking paths untrodden and exploring new areas whenever possible. On our various expeditions, we have met a host of people all around Baltistan, whose hospitality remains unrivaled. At LAS we have always been conscious about the unique position we hold in this community and have always worked hard at giving back.
Shortly after our May Trip 2017, one of our friends and a colleague of LAS, Mr. Shafqat, passed away. The late owner of Cafe de Hunza has gone to great lengths for the development of Karimabad, the capital of Hunza. We wish to honor the memory of Shafqat Bhai and celebrate the legacy he has left behind.
Thus, as a tribute, LAS has decided on organizing the Shafqat Memorial Futsal League during our May Trip 2018. Playing and spectating under the shadow of Rakaposhi-Ultar Peaks and the Golden Peak, several teams from regions spanning the vast area between Haramosh to Shimshal will come to Karimabad for this nationally covered 3-day event. Not only will this event serve as a basis to unearth talent, but also promote healthy competition, provide exposure, and encourage the growth of sports in this region. The tournament will be held at Baltit Polo ground in Karimabad, Hunza.
LAS hopes to execute the entire event, along with providing all the necessities such as footballs, playing kits, etc. We believe it will be the perfect occasion to honor our great friends and to give something back to a people who have done so much for us over the course of the 20 years LAS members have trodden through these very areas.
